The defeated candidate in the second round of the elections for the mayor of São Paulo, deputy Guilherme Boulos (Psol-SP), made his first speech to the activists on Thursday night (7). In his speeches, Boulos compared the extreme right to a “weed” that “grows quickly”. “When you plant hate, fear, as the extreme right does, in this country and around the world, it blooms faster,” he said.

At the event, Boulos also referred to former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), without mentioning his name, when commenting that Donald Trump’s victory in the United States “encouraged a group over there to say that the ineligible person has to become eligible”. “They’re going to have to go over us, because it won’t be,” he added.

The event was attended by leaders of left-wing parties such as PT, Psol and PCdoB, such as deputies Rui Falcão (PT-SP), Erika Hilton (Psol-SP) and Orlando Silva (PCdoB-SP). Entitled “The future is ours”, the intention was to debate the challenges and paths after the municipal election. When trying to downplay the defeat, Boulos referred to it as a plantation. “Left-wing militancy, we know, plants. Plant hope, plant dreams. An election, a mandate, a government passes. What we plant, stays”, said Boulos.

In his speech, Boulos also said that the time was to “understand what happened” and plan the paths for the re-election of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in 2026. “The time now is for us to understand what happened, make a sincere, frank, humble reading. But at the same time, joining our forces, reorganizing the left field to fight the battles we need to reverse this scenario and to re-elect President Lula in 2026, defeating the extreme right again. This is the challenge we have ahead of us”, said Boulos.

When talking about 2026, Boulos also provoked the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas (Republicans) saying that he can put the “viola in his bag because he will not be president of the Republic of that country in 2026”.

Boulos’ allies talk about unity and resumption of the left

Following Boulos’ line, his allies spoke preaching the unity of the left and the resumption of “people’s enchantment”.

Party colleague, deputy Erika Hilton, classified the campaign as violent, cruel and unfair. When talking about the resumption of “people’s enchantment” by the left, especially the working class, Hilton pointed out that people “have not been able to see who the real villains are.”

Deputy Rui Falcão also emphasized the unity of the left. “That [a união] This is what will allow us, in the next period, to change society. Not in a month, not in two months, but in the election. I’m confident that many of us, maybe I won’t see this, but many of us will see a new society here in Brazil”, pondered Falcão. According to him, it is necessary to reconnect with the working class and “break social selfishness and individualism”.

The PT member also cited Trump’s election. “The system we have to fight is the capitalist system, which devastates nature and produces brutal concentration of income, which helps explain why Trump wins the election despite being convicted,” said Falcão during the event with Boulos.
