ETA member Sahatsa sentenced to 110 years in prison for three bomb attacks in 2002 | Spain

The National Court this Friday sentenced ETA member Miren Itxaso Zaldúa to 110 years in prison, to whom the alias of the willowfor three bomb attacks perpetrated in 2002 against the Corte Inglés in Zaragoza and the headquarters of the companies Uvesa and , in Navarra, which left several people injured and numerous material damages. The court, which acquits her for a fourth attack with explosives against the University of Navarra that same year, has considered it proven that the terrorist was then acting as “coordinator and promoter” of the commando Basajaunin charge of those three attacks. “He organized and directed terrorist actions,” reads the sentence, which opens the door for Zaldúa to return to prison after he was free in 2023 for the murder of Manuel Giménez Abad, former president of the PP of Aragón.

The magistrates who signed the sentence (Alfonso Guevara, Francisco Javier Vieira and Ana María Rubio) concluded that Zaldúa set the objectives for the members of the command, in addition to providing them with the necessary means to commit the attacks. The court lists the evidence that exists against her: such as the internal documents seized from the band (Ibón Fernández Iradi, Susp; Juan Antonio Olarra, One; and Ainhoa ​​Múgica, Olga); and, in particular, a letter attributed to the accused, which she sent to the ETA military apparatus and where she details how the attacks were carried out.

Zaldúa has been free since July 2023. He served time in France for his membership in ETA. In July 2020, after returning to Spain, for his alleged involvement in the murder of the president of the PP of Aragón, for which he remained in provisional prison until last year.

For its part, the court has acquitted ETA member Mikel Kabikoitz Carrera Sarobe, Ataof the four attacks due to lack of evidence. The Prosecutor’s Office requested for him, as for Sahatsa, a total of 167 years in prison. During the trial, held this September, both denied their involvement in said crimes. “I have never manufactured an explosive device. I have never prepared a car,” Zaldúa defended himself. Ata, who was accused of the murder of Giménez Abad in 2001, did admit his membership in the commando Basajaunbut denied that he participated in the attacks against the Corte Inglés in Zaragoza, the University of Navarra and the companies Uvesa and .
