The President of the Senate, Rodrigo Pachecohad, on Thursday (7), another round of meetings with parliamentary delegations on the second day of the .
Pacheco received delegations from France, China, Turkey, Mexico and Canada, as well as the representative of ParlAmericas — an institution that promotes parliamentary diplomacy and dialogue between 35 legislatures in North, Central and South America and the Caribbean.
The P20 is hosted in the Chamber of Deputies and the Federal Senate, in Brasília (DF), until this Friday (8).

In a meeting with the vice-president of the French Senate, Loïc Hervé, Pacheco stated that the presence of the French delegation at the P20 is fundamental as it is an exemplary democracy for the world.
The dialogue reaffirmed the common objectives of the two countries, such as promoting actions that enable the sustainable development of nations.
“I mentioned that a new survey showed a 30% drop in deforestation in the Amazon, and the bill that regulates the carbon credit market, which should be voted on soon by Brazilian senators,” said Pacheco, in a message published on social media .

Brazilian senators were also invited to the celebrations at the French Parliament, in 2025, of the 200th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
Business partnership
Rodrigo Pacheco also received the delegation led by the vice-president of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, deputy Wu Weihua. The conversation highlighted 50 years of diplomacy between the two countries, and China’s position as Brazil’s main trading partner, totaling US$157 billion in 2023.
When proposing a closer relationship for the discussion of technological innovations, the president of the Senate highlighted the progress of projects that regulate artificial intelligence and deal with the carbon credits market.

“Strengthening parliamentary diplomacy becomes important so that we can modernize legislative frameworks in the area of energy, for example, and to deal with food security, given that Brazil is one of the largest food producers”, he stated.
Dialogue and consensus
The president of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, deputy Numan Kurtulmuş, was also received by Pacheco. They expressed mutual interest in strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and talked about energy transition and food security.
Pacheco recalled, in a post on Instagram, that he highlighted “the position of the Brazilian National Congress in the permanent search for peace between nations in conflict through dialogue and consensus and, at the same time, we repudiate all types of violence practiced against sovereign countries ”.

Representing ParlAmericas, Paraguayan senator Blanca Ovelar spoke with Pacheco about violence against women and low female representation in politics. The two shared reports of experiences in parliaments dealing with the issue.
“I mentioned the Maria da Penha Law, which we are very proud of in Brazil for being a milestone for the protection of women victims of violence, among other laws that we approved in this same sense”, wrote Pacheco on Instagram.
Democracy
Pacheco’s meeting with the president of the Mexican Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee, Alejandro Murat Hinojosa, dealt with topics such as economy, culture and tourism. The conversation highlighted the need to defend democracy, combat poverty and seek sustainable development.

The two also highlighted the joint actions of Brazil and Mexico in the search for peace in international organizations. They suggested exchanging experiences in combating violence and organized crime.
The President of the Canadian Senate, Senator Raymonde Gagné, discussed bilateral efforts towards sustainable development with Rodrigo Pacheco. “I reported that in Brazil the main challenge is the fight against illegal activity of removing vegetation. I highlighted that the Federal Senate will vote on the carbon credit market bill with the aim of making forest protection more profitable than deforestation”, stated Pacheco.
The Brazilian parliamentarian also highlighted the importance of Canada’s presence at the 2025 United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 30), to be held in Belém (PA) in November 2025, and expressed his desire for approval of the cooperation agreement between the two countries in the area of defense.
