Poland is looking for two Russians and has already detained four Ukrainian citizens as part of the investigation.
Russian intelligence services are believed to be responsible for a series of package explosions at courier warehouses in Poland, Britain and Germany in July this year. The Polish prosecutor’s office announced this on Friday. TASR informs about it according to a Reuters report.
Destabilization of Ukraine’s allies
Western officials have already claimed in the past that Russia is trying to destabilize Ukraine’s allies through sabotage. The explosions at European courier warehouses could have caused a serious escalation, according to Reuters, because the explosions could have occurred on planes carrying these packages.
According to security officials, the exploding packages were part of a plot to detonate cargo planes bound for the United States and Canada. The packages were sent from the Lithuanian capital Vilnius.
“The evidence collected indicates a high probability that these acts of sabotage were instigated by Russian security forces,” Polish prosecutor’s spokesman Przemyslaw Nowak said in a statement. Russia has previously denied the allegations.
The search for two Russians
Nowak claims that Poland is looking for two Russians and has already detained four Ukrainian citizens as part of the investigation.
The Polish prosecutor’s office reported on the possible involvement of foreign intelligence services in these incidents back in October, but without explicitly naming Russia.
The spokesman of the Polish prosecutor’s office added on Friday that the security forces of other European Union countries are cooperating to identify the remaining persons responsible for the explosions.
