Abdul Muhari, spokesman for the country’s disaster mitigation agency, said the eruptions were “quite significant” due to ash rains and sandfalls that hit neighboring areas.
Hadi Wijaya, head of Indonesia’s volcanology agency, said an eruption on Friday produced a towering ash column that reached 8 to 10 km high, adding that volcanic matter and hot gas traveled in all directions.
