Ednéia Carvalho, wife of former Minister Silvio Almeida, of Human Rights, made an outburst this Thursday (7) about her husband’s dismissal by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in September, amid allegations of moral and sexual harassment . She described the last two months as extremely difficult in which she lived “with injustice” and which took away her peace.
Silvio Almeida was fired after the revelation of cases of harassment of women on his own team and to Minister Anielle Franco, of Racial Equality, who confirmed the episodes of sexual harassment. Almeida, he said, would have had “inconvenient attitudes”, including inappropriate touching and unwanted invitations, but the minister did not report it previously for fear of judgment and lack of credibility.
“These last two months have not been easy, living with injustice, having your peace taken away is something I don’t even know how to explain. […] There is so much talk about feminist issues, but this same feminism did not welcome me, I will never forget the times I had to breastfeed my daughter in the midst of deep sadness”, said Ednéia on a social network.
Ednéia stated that the postpartum period has been even more challenging amid the accusations against her husband, and said she believes that the accusations are based on “personal interests”.
“I am very sorry that serious issues are being trivialized by personal interests, but despite everything I am fine, I continue to take care of my family”, he said.
She also reported that Brasília was not a welcoming place and that she returned to live in São Paulo with her husband. “BSB didn’t do me any good. I will miss the good friendships we made there, but nothing more”, he said, casting doubt on the friendly relationships he had in recent years after Almeida was called by Lula to the government.
“There were those who let go of our hand, but they were an irrelevant minority compared to the support network that welcomed us”, he pointed out.
He also highlighted the support he received after the allegations, including on social media, where he faced attacks. “I received a lot of affection and support right here, in this network that massacred my family, which didn’t even spare Anesu, our daughter.”
Ednéia’s outburst was followed by another from Silvio Almeida himself, who stated that “the pain of injustice and slander will never overcome the commitment we have to each other and also to our girl. You observed well: in the middle of this quagmire we discovered true friends and received a lot of support, from people I will never forget.”
