The pitfalls of washing and drying clothes in winter
By drying very damp laundry in the apartment, you run the risk of a large amount of water evaporating in the room. Ultimately, this will greatly increase the humidity in the apartment. Unfortunately, this leads to the formation of unwanted fungi, which threatens not only your home, but also your health. So how do you advise? Start with washing in the washing machine.
Double or extra spin
If you want to significantly shorten the drying time of washed laundry, use a little-known function of the washing machine, which is double or extra spinning. This is a special program that allows you to remove more water from the laundry than with a standard cycle.
Thanks to this, the laundry is much drier after washing and subsequently dries much faster. If you have an older model of the appliance, use the highest spin program and run it twice. Always shake the clothes properly before hanging them, this will remove any creases and the clothes will dry much faster.
How to machine wash to save money
If you want to save money on laundry, it’s a good idea to use low temperature wash cycles. Washing at 30 to 40 degrees Celsius uses less energy than washing at high temperatures. Always fill the washing machine to maximum capacity. Likewise, use ecological programs that help reduce water and energy consumption without compromising washing results.
Run the washing machine off-peak, i.e. at night or on weekends. If you want to reduce energy costs, another solution is to avoid excessive use of detergents, which may require additional rinsing. Likewise, do not neglect regular cleaning of the washing machine, including filters and descaling. In this way, the washing machine will work more efficiently and at the same time you will effectively extend its life.
Basic principles of proper drying
Always pay attention to the correct hanging of the laundry on the line, that is the basis. Carefully turn off each piece, smooth it with your palms, and then hang it. Never overfill the dryer, but always hang the laundry evenly. Leave T-shirts, blouses, shirts or sportswear and sweatshirts to dry directly on the clothesline. They will dry much faster, and you can then store them straight away in the closet.
Dry the laundry in the right place
It is always much better to dry clothes in a spacious room with sufficient air flow. A place near a window is ideal. Better avoid the bedroom where you sleep, it is not good for healthy breathing.
