Brazilian Robson Conceição lost his world boxing title in a rematch against American O’Shaquie Foster, in a clash held between Saturday night (2) and Sunday morning (3).
Conceição and Foster had a balanced duel, similar to the one they had in July, which had crowned the Brazilian as champion. The new fight, held in Verona, in the United States, was decided in small details, similar to what was recorded in the previous clash.
Competing for the title of the super featherweight category (up to 59 kg), the Brazilian did not retain the belt by just a few points. After the judges’ evaluation, the fight ended in 115-113, 113-115 and 115-113, in a confrontation scheduled for 12 rounds.
In the first clash between Conceição and Foster, the Brazilian came out on top in the judges’ assessment, winning the World Boxing Council title belt.
The American contested the result and won the right to a rematch, which gave him the title back.
“He’s a great fighter, but I said I was going to reverse this result. That was my goal,” said Foster after the fight.
The Brazilian, in turn, said he was satisfied with his performance in the ring. “I did a great job and I knew the victory could have come to me. It was a very even fight, Foster is a great fighter”, said Robson.
The Brazilian boxer also said that he would like an immediate rematch.
During the fight, the American adopted a less daring strategy to win the title, defending himself more and attacking his opponent. Conceição even landed a few blows, but without excitement.
Foster, on the other hand, managed to land good strikes and open a small advantage in the first rounds. From the 8th round onwards, the American increased his offensiveness, already realizing the Brazilian’s disadvantage, and sealed the victory.
If there is agreement on a new confrontation between the two, the fight should take place at the beginning of next year.
The Brazilian’s greatest career achievement is gold at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in 2016. Before the clash against Foster, Conceição had competed for the world title in the sport three times.
In 2023, he lost his opportunity against Mexican Emanuel Navarret. He was also defeated, in 2021, in a controversial fight against Mexican Oscar Valdez, and in 2022, against American Shakur Stevenson.
