Anvisa updates list of substances under special control

The controlling body added cannabis-based medicines for animal use; veterinarians will be able to prescribe the product

Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) updated on Thursday (November 7, 2024) the list of narcotic, psychotropic and precursor substances under special control. The controlling body added veterinary medicines based on cannabis sativa. The products must be regularized with the Ministry of Agriculture.

The document also allows qualified veterinarians to prescribe medicines and health products cannabis authorized by Anvisa. Resolution 936 of 2024 in Official Gazette of the Union and will come into force on December 2nd. Here is it (PDF – 2 MB).

“Prescription by medical professionals – veterinarians, legally qualified by the Federal Council of Veterinary Medicine, for medicinal purposes, for exclusively veterinary use, of medicines and Cannabis products is permitted”says the document.
