US President Joe Biden will receive President-elect Donald Trump at the White House next week at 11:00 local time (17:00 CET) on Wednesday. TASR informs about it based on the statement of the White House and the AP agency.
The meeting will take place a week after the publication of the results of the presidential elections from the decisive states. The American president congratulated the successful candidate by phone this week on Wednesday, when he invited him to a conversation about the smooth transfer of power. Kamala Harris also acknowledged defeat in the election on Wednesday, which she also congratulated Trump in the phone call.
According to the AP agency, Trump has so far received 301 electoral votes, his Democratic rival Kamala Harris has 226. 270 votes in the Electoral College were needed to win. The only state where the results are still awaited is Nevada, where Trump leads.
The Americans thus elected Donald Trump as the 47th president of the United States, and he should return to the White House after four years. In 2020, he lost the presidential election to incumbent Joe Biden and refused to accept defeat – repeatedly challenging the results of the election and instigating a violent attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. TRump did not meet Biden after the election and did not attend his inauguration.
