Chilean player Arturo Vidal, 37, was accused of sexual assault by a woman who was at a party organized by players from Colo-Colo, the veteran athlete’s club, the Chilean Public Ministry reported this Monday (4).
In a brief message, the Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that “there is a complaint of sexual assault in the bar […]but no one was detained.”
The complaint is “against Colo-Colo players”, including Vidal, added the Public Ministry, which did not provide the names of other athletes being investigated.
According to the local press, the alleged sexual assault occurred in the early hours of Monday in a nightclub in Santiago, where a group of Colo-Colo players went to celebrate a birthday.
According to Gerardo Aravena, police colonel, Vidal —who played Brazilian football, wearing the Flamengo shirt— was one of the only people involved taken to a police station in the early hours of the morning for an identity check, but was not arrested.
The alleged aggression was reported by one of the women invited to the celebration and occurred hours after Colo-Colo’s 3-0 victory over Deportes Iquique, in the penultimate round of the Chilean Championship. Vidal’s team leads the tournament, with 66 points, two ahead of Universidad de Chile
Chilean sport was shaken a week ago by the rape accusation against former player Jorge Valdivia, who was detained after being accused by a woman of abusing her after drinking in a Peruvian restaurant.
