Barry Jenkins, director of “Mufasa: The Lion King”, took to the stage at D23 to tell a little about his story with one of Disney’s greatest characters. “When I was a teenager, I helped my sister, who was a single mother, and I looked for films for my nephews to watch. That’s when I found ‘The Lion King’ and started watching it with them”, he recalled. Directing his first musical, he also commented on the partnership with Lin-Manuel Miranda. “I had never done a musical and Lin Manuel Miranda arrived, who has already done ‘Hamilton’, ‘Moana’, and I asked him to guide me”, he stated.
Furthermore, Barry Jenkins also commented on the great main character, Mufasa. “Mufasa is perfect. He was an organ, and I always liked following stories of people who manage to leave a place that doesn’t provide opportunities and manage to win.” The film from the Lion King universe opens on December 19th in theaters.
