Victories almost always have disputed parentage, mothers and fathers in numbers claiming their custody. Defeats, on the other hand, tend to be nobody’s children, thrown into the pile of dirty clothes to be washed well or poorly, depending on the greater or lesser willingness of the defeated to self-criticize.
We have been seeing this since the poor performance in the municipal competitions; we see the same thing now in the American Democratic party in the face of the expressive vote that leads back to the President of the United States.
From being celebrated for embodying hope and renewal, it became the culprit for the stagnation of discourse in a time already surpassed by the demands of the electorate. There, as here, there is certainly more meat beneath this angu, the recipe of which will not be restored by the mere exchange of accusations.
The Brazilian left is caught up in this unproductive game of pushing and shoving today, looking at the results of the 2024 polls as if the problem had been born with them. The Minister of Political Articulation, (PT), was the one who came closest to the time frame by locating in 2016 the moment in which the .
and retired. He realized that there, through sunlight, the debate was banned. As, in fact, it was for a few PT members who, even before the Dilma Rousseff (PT) impeachment crisis, had already attempted, without success, to point out the need to correct course.
Voices were canceled when the term was not yet used to condemn those who disagree, in this case. We don’t really remember the names. Some left the party, others got tired and fell silent. In 2018, at a (PT) presidential campaign rally, rapper Mano Brown gave the lyrics. He pointed out the party’s separation from the “crowd that needs to be won over” and received a tremendous boo.
“We’re going to fall into the abyss”, pointed out the artist connected to reality in front of an audience disconnected from the “crowd” and connected to their respective navels. Certainly because in the ears of those people they didn’t have enough political “literacy” to understand the situation. The abyss was right there, but self-deception prevailed and grew four years later with the return of (PT) to Planalto.
Because with central power and everything, the party had a below-critical performance in the election and, with the exception of one or another electoral flat-earther, in general it admitted that it did poorly. This is even though I’m still in a daze without really understanding where it came from or what the impact of the crash was.
The PT has no practice in exercising self-criticism. He always avoided going into the field of recognizing mistakes, based on the premise that this would be equivalent to letting his guard down and opening the way for his opponents.
Of course, opponents take advantage of the spaces, but in the review, when done well, you are always stronger to face them. Rectifying conduct does not mean capitulating. On the contrary. It is, in the words of samba, recognizing the fall, not getting discouraged, shaking off the dust and preparing to get back on top.
This, however, requires much more. For example, the abandonment of drops of arrogance in reacting to criticism. Who knows, it might help to stop considering the “poor right-wingers” stupid? Or hastily reformulate the search for the evangelical after having disqualified him as a hostage of the people’s opium dealers?
It is also ineffective to insist on calling anyone who disagrees a fascist. Artificially ordering a central costume doesn’t seem like a good solution either.
I close with an example of an eye in the rear view mirror by congressman Ivan Valente, a former PT member currently with PSOL. Irritated by considerations about the errors of the left, he pontificated: “”.
The concept of “factory door” no longer exists and the pamphlet is now digital.
