Representative Mayra Pinheiro (-CE), known as “Captain Cloroquine”, followed the victory of the United States presidency from Washington.

The parliamentarian states that she was in the American capital to follow the election and participate in a course on politics that was held this week. Mayra received R$12,500 in daily allowances from the Chamber of Deputies for the trip, which took place between November 2nd and 7th.

The congresswoman celebrated Trump’s victory on social media, confirmed in the early hours of Wednesday (6). An ally of the former president, Mayra received her nickname for leading the defense of the “Covid kit” in the last government, when she was secretary of the Ministry of Health. The treatment is contraindicated by medical and scientific entities.

“I’m on a previously authorized official trip, to take a course, follow the North American election and immerse myself in their electoral and democratic practices in order to broaden the discussion of these practices among my peers”, Mayra told Sheet.

The same amount in daily allowances was paid by the Chamber to deputy José Medeiros (PL-MT), who also celebrated Trump’s victory in the American capital. He participated in the same course taken by Mayra and promoted by the “Institute for Political Studies”.

The deputy stated that he discussed the US internal scenario and democracy in Latin America. “With the participation of politicians, journalists and academics from both parties [Democrata e Republicano]”, said Medeiros.

The Chamber’s website does not show whether other parliamentarians went to the United States with paid expenses, nor does it detail flight prices.

The Senate paid R$55,000 in daily allowances and tickets for Laércio Oliveira (PP-SE) to travel to Washington during the elections. Air tickets cost R$34,400, while daily rates totaled around R$20,600. The senator was on an official trip for the “United States Elections Program”.

Trump was declared president-elect at around 7:30 am this Wednesday (6), when he surpassed the necessary mark of 270 of the 538 Electoral College votes.
