Federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) sees that Donald Trump’s victory in the United States presidential election could influence the decisions of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF), especially in relation to his father, Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
The parliamentarian is in the United States throughout the week and followed the counting of votes last Tuesday (5) at Trump’s home in Mar-a-Lago, Florida.
“Certainly the Supreme Court will be less comfortable carrying out persecutions,” he said in an interview with Folha de S. Paulo published this Saturday (9). For him, Trump’s victory will have an impact on “the power that the United States will now have against the abuses of authorities sponsored by a STF minister [referindo-se a Alexandre de Moraes, mas sem mencioná-lo]”.
According to him, Trump’s victory also reinforces a bill that aims to prevent the entry into the United States of authorities who violate the freedom of expression of American citizens, something that could directly affect Moraes. Eduardo claims that the judge violated the American Constitution by suspending the social network X, at the end of August, and blocking user profiles.
“This fits perfectly with the recent case of X, in which there was a fight between Elon Musk and certain Brazilian institutions”, he pointed out.
The deputy says he also sees similarities in the trajectories of Trump and Bolsonaro, pointing out that both won unlikely elections and faced legal proceedings that prevented them from seeking re-election.
“Trump has returned. He was persecuted, indicted, they dumped a lot of files on him, threatened with arrest. It’s the same story that happens with Bolsonaro. If Trump came back here [nos Estados Unidos]so there is a chance for Bolsonaro to return there [no Brasil]”, he pointed out.
Eduardo also defended that Bolsonaro is “plan A, B and C” for the next presidential election, ruling out any other name from the right as a viable alternative. For him, his father’s conviction was disproportionate, compared to the crimes attributed to Lula in the past.
“It was impossible to get Lula out of jail, clean him up, make him eligible. Yes, that was impossible”, he said.
He also questioned the reasons that led to his father’s ineligibility. “Why did he meet with ambassadors? Because he got on a sound car and spoke, a sound car that was paid for by the [pastor] Silas Malafaia, and then he was convicted of abuse of political power? Lula was convicted of money laundering and corruption. So, yes, I believe it can be reversed [a inelegibilidade]”, he amended
