Juha Kanervado was one of three voters who did not even place the Brazilian in the top 10 of their choices for the best player in the world
Finnish journalist Juha Kanervado admitted that he made a mistake in the vote. He was one of three voters who did not even place in the top 10 of their choices for the best player in the world. The other two were Bruno Porzio, from El Salvador, and Sheefeni Nikodemus, from Namibia. “My technical error. I will resign from the Ballon d’Or jury”, wrote Kanervado on X, formerly Twitter, when responding to an account from Madrid that highlighted that he was one of the only ones not to include the Brazilian striker in the top 10 of the season. There were 99 journalists who voted for the award (the Syrian representative did not participate).
According to France Football magazine’s award regulations, the top 100 countries in the FIFA ranking each had a representative who listed ten names in order of preference, and the players received scores according to their position. Each vote for the best player in the world was worth 15 points, and second place on the lists was worth 12 points. From third to tenth place, 10, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 were distributed, respectively. Winner of the award, Spanish midfielder Rodri, from Manchester City, had an advantage of just 41 points over the Brazilian, who was in second place. The Real Madrid striker did not go to the awards ceremony as a form of protest from the Spanish club over the result.
