The Finnish journalist who confessed to having made a mistake in omitting Vinicius Junior in his vote for the Ballon d’Or told Sheet which would have placed the Brazilian in second place, behind the winner, the Spaniard Rodri.
“I made a technical error filling out the form and accidentally left out Vinicius Jr’s name. [Meu voto seria] 1. Rodri 2. Vini”, said Juha Kanerva, reporter for the Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat.
Even if he recovered the nine points for second place, however, Real Madrid’s Brazilian striker would remain runner-up for the Ballon d’Or, 32 points behind Rodri in the final classification. The Manchester City Spaniard had 1,170 points, compared to Vinicius’ 1,129.
Kanerva announced this Saturday (9), on the social network In practice, there were 99 votes, as there was no representative from Syria.
The detailed result of the vote had been released hours earlier by France Football magazine, which created the award in 1956.
Each journalist had to choose ten players, in order of preference, from a list of 30 pre-selected players. It drew attention to the fact that three judges did not place the Brazilian from Real Madrid among the top ten: in addition to Kanerva, Bruno Porzio, from TV El Grão, in El Salvador, and Sheefeni Nikodemus, from radio Desert, in Namibia.
“I’ve been on the jury for ten years and now it’s time to leave,” Kanerva added to the report. Founded in 1932, Ilta-Sanomat is one of Finland’s most traditional newspapers.
