Fluminense announced this Saturday (2) that Marcelo is no longer part of the squad. The termination, described by the club as “by mutual agreement”, came after a disagreement between the 36-year-old veteran full-back and coach Mano Menezes on the side of the pitch at Maracanã. The episode occurred during the 2-2 draw with Grêmio, on Friday (1), in the 32nd round of the Brazilian Championship.
In an interview after the match, the coach mentioned having heard “something he didn’t like”. Internally, the tone of the conflict left the feeling that the player had no other way out than to break up.
Even so, when talking about the player’s departure, the club highlighted that he was trained in Laranjeiras and that his return was marked by winning the Copa Libertadores in 2023.
Marcelo returned to Fluminense in 2023 after a long spell in Europe, where he won several titles, especially with the Real Madrid shirt.
