The president of , , stated this Wednesday (6) that the de serves as a warning to the democratic field and that it is necessary to prepare for confrontation.
She said that the far right was already “dismayed” by the result and gave as an example of () celebrating the Republican’s victory
“They come with everything. Bolsonaro has already given the line. We have to prepare for the confrontation. We did this in 2022. We will do it again”, he told Sheet.
“We have to strengthen the field of democracy in our country, but above all, provide concrete responses to the needs and expectations of the people, which do not fit into the neoliberal agenda that the market wants to impose on the government and the country”, he also stated on social media.
Carlos Siqueira, president of vice Geraldo Alckmin’s PSB, said that the republican’s election is a sign of the advance in the West of what he called extremist forces, “some with a fascist character”, even in places where they previously had no expression — in Portugal, for example example, with the creation of the Chega party, and in France.
“It encourages extremist forces around the world and, in Brazil, too. But diplomatic and commercial relations are different things. Governments do this regardless of the political positions of the government on duty. The aspect is more of a political nature: what does it mean for Latin America and for the West in general”, he stated.
Pragmatism in the relationship is something that the Brazilian government seeks to maintain with the Trump administration, as said by the presidential special advisor for international affairs, Celso Amorim.
The president, on victory, wished the new government luck and spoke of dialogue and joint work.
“My congratulations to President Donald Trump on his electoral victory and return to the US Presidency. Democracy is the voice of the people and it must always be respected. The world needs dialogue and joint work to have more peace, development and prosperity. I wish you luck and success to the new government”, he stated.
In the same pragmatic tone, Alckmin congratulated Trump on his victory and said on social media that he hoped for “an even greater expansion of the partnership between Brazil and the USA”.
Trump beat Democrat Kamala Harris in the number of electoral colleges and the popular vote.
Furthermore, it achieved a majority in the Chamber and the Senate, control of which the party regained by obtaining 51 of the 100 seats.
The victory led members of the Brazilian right and Bolsonaro supporters to celebrate and make projections for 2026.
Early in the morning, the former president released a message congratulating Trump. Hours later, he released a long text on the social network, in which he said: “May Trump’s victory inspire Brazil to follow the same path.”
“Maybe soon God will also grant us the chance to complete our mission with dignity and give us back everything that was taken from us,” he said.
