He assured Ukraine of continued support from the Eurobloc.
The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, arrived in Kyiv on Saturday to assure Ukraine of continued support from the Eurobloc. TASR informs about it based on the AFP report.
“The message is clear – the Europeans will continue to support Ukraine… We have supported Ukraine since the beginning, and on this my last visit to Ukraine, I am sending you the same message: we will support you as much as we can,” said Borrell, who will be replaced by Estonia on December 1 ex-prime minister Kaja Kallasová.
He visited Ukraine after the US presidential elections
Borrell visited strife-torn Ukraine days after the US presidential election in which Republican Donald Trump won. During the election campaign, he questioned the continuation of American military support for Kyiv and claimed that he could resolve the conflict in Ukraine in 24 hours. However, he refused to reveal how he wants to achieve this.
“Nobody knows exactly what the new (US) administration is going to do,” Borrell said in response to the US presidential election results. He pointed out, however, that incumbent US President Joe Biden still has two months to make a decision.
“However, we Europeans must use this opportunity to build a stronger and more united Europe, and one of the manifestations of being united, stronger and able to act is our role in supporting Ukraine,” added the head of EU diplomacy.
Borrell said it was up to EU countries to decide “when and how to increase” their support if necessary. According to him, at the Friday meeting of EU leaders in Budapest, “most member countries insisted on the same line, to continue supporting Ukraine”.
