Since leaving Karla Gotta († 80) five years have passed since the first of October. His secretary Jan Adam, who spent 33 long years with the singer, remembers Zlatý slávik fondly. In an interview, he described what requirements he had before the concert, or what food he could never miss during his visit to Slovakia.
“Really little was enough for him. He was very modest. There had to be a clean sink and towel in the dressing room. He did not have special requirements for refreshments, which many, even smaller stars have. Fruit was enough for him, he liked pineapple. He didn’t like sausages in the dressing room, the smell before the performance bothered him. Especially on the day of the concert, he didn’t eat. You gave the maximum chicken fillet, but when it was after the concert – and we experienced this very often in Slovakia – he ate roast goose or duck with lox,” Adam said.
The secretary thought that he would be sick after this pile of food, but Gott got up early in the morning and had tiramisu or pancakes covered in chocolate and whipped cream for breakfast. He couldn’t resist good food even when they came to Slovakia. After crossing the border, he stopped the car at a completely ordinary hut, where he was looking forward to bryndza gnocchi.
“We went in, the regulars were sitting there, and when they saw him, they said they wouldn’t take another shot because they saw Gott. Karel sat down, ordered gnocchi with bryndza and bacon, he really loved them, he taught me to eat them too,” he added.
