Event in Planalto brought together religious leaders who visited him during detention; PT member was released on November 8, 2019
The president (PT) held an ecumenical ceremony at Palácio do Planalto this Friday (8.Nov.2024). The event marked 5 years since his release from PF (Federal Police) prison in Curitiba. Religious leaders who visited him during his detention were present.
The PT member was arrested as part of the Lava Jato operation after being convicted in the 2nd Instance in 2 cases, one with confirmation by the STJ (Superior Court of Justice). Lula spent 580 days detained at the PF Superintendence in Curitiba for the Guarujá triplex case. He reported to PF headquarters on April 7, 2018 and was released on November 8, 2019.
The PT member published images of the celebration on his social media profile. “Today marks 5 years since I regained my freedom in Curitiba. To mark this date, alongside @janjalula [Janja Silva]I invited all the religious people who visited me during the 580 days I was in prison to an ecumenical ceremony.”writes on Instagram.
Lula was condemned by the then judge and now senator (União Brasil-PR) in the case of and by the substitute judge Gabriela Hardt in the case of . Both convictions had their sentences increased by the TRF-4 (Federal Regional Court), but the 5th Panel of the STJ in the 1st case.
All convictions, however, were (Supreme Federal Court), after the Court considered them in the judgment of the cases. Lula was released before this trial, when the Supreme Court, that is, when appeals in higher courts were exhausted.
Lula was defended during the operation by his then lawyer, who became known for working in this case. The lawyer went to the STF (Supreme Federal Court) for the president on June 1, 2023.
