Minister André Mendonça, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), requested prominence this Saturday (9) in the trial of an appeal presented by Fernando Collor’s defense to reduce the sentence to be served by the former president.
With Mendonça’s request, the trial, held in the virtual plenary of the STF and in which the, will have their votes reset and will be taken to the physical plenary of the Supreme Court for analysis.
Now, it is up to the rapporteur of the action at the Court, minister Alexandre de Moraes, to forward the case to the in-person trial, the date of which must be defined by the president of the STF, minister Luís Roberto Barroso.

In May 2023, Collor was sentenced to prison by the STF due to the crimes of passive corruption and money laundering in a scheme at BR Distribuidora, which involved receiving bribes to make contracts with the state-owned company viable.
The punishment established payment of a fine, compensation and prohibition from performing public functions. According to the decision, the sentence would be served under an initial closed regime.
The trial, carried out by the virtual plenary of the Supreme Court, began on the 1st of this month and would continue until Monday (11). An appeal presented by Collor’s defense to reduce the sentence to be served by the former president was being analyzed.
