“The 2024 elections were a clear message that a considerable part of the population rejects extremist figures and that they have solidified their images through the dissemination of fake news. Large cities, such as Rio de Janeiro, Recife, Fortaleza, Belo Horizonte and Belém, signaled that reject these figures, who have contributed nothing to civility and democratic debate”, said Padilha, in an article published in the “Esfera News” newsletter, from the Esfera Brasil group.

Padilha also stated that the government will support the elected mayors. “In this new cycle of mandates in city halls, we want to continue building bridges between the Union and the municipalities. In addition to bringing investments and guaranteeing resources, the government will support the transition of new representatives, both those elected for the first time and those re-elected.”
He added that the Lula administration, since taking office, has sent R$67 billion more in free resources to the municipalities, originating from the Municipal Participation Fund and the National Education Development Fund.
