The member states of the North Atlantic Alliance on Friday described the deployment of North Korean troops as a “dangerous expansion” of Russia’s support in the war against Ukraine and they also emphasized the support of Kyiv. TASR informs about it based on reports from Reuters and DPA.
In a joint statement, the 34 members of the Alliance warned against the “deepening of military cooperation” between Russia and North Korea, which will “significantly affect Euro-Atlantic security, with consequences for the Indo-Pacific as well.” Australia, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and Ukraine supported the NATO statement.
At the end of October, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte emphasized that the DPRK had sent soldiers to Russia and that they had been deployed in the Kursk region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said on Thursday after the meeting with Rutte that “a stronger reaction from Western countries is needed to the new role of North Korea in the Russian-Ukrainian war”.
Therefore, the statement also confirmed Ukraine’s assistance in relation to North Korean troops, stressing that the Allies “remain as committed as ever to support Ukraine for as long as it takes for it to win.” The goal is to enable Kyiv to build armed forces that will be able to successfully fight against Russian aggression, writes DPA.
