British driver Lando Norris, from McLaren, came in first place this Sunday (3) in qualifying for the F1 São Paulo Grand Prix race, at the Interlagos race track.
The competition was marked by intense rain that hit the capital of São Paulo. With a wet track, there were five red flags due to collisions. The drivers are fine, but had to have their cars removed for repairs before the race.
Initially scheduled to start at 3pm on Saturday (2), training had successive delays due to rain until the race management decided to reschedule it for 7:30am this Sunday, the day of the race, which had its time brought forward by 2pm ( from Brasília) to 12:30 pm.
Following on the qualifying grid were, respectively, George Russel, from Mercedes; Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda and Alpine’s Esteban Ocon.
Lewis Hamilton, from Mercedes, and Franco Colapinto, from Williams, were eliminated in Q1 and will start in 15th and 18th position.
The championship leader, Max Verstappen, from Red Bull, was eliminated in Q2 and will start in 17th place in the race.
There were five red flags for collisions. The first was when Colapinto crashed at Curva do Sol in Q1. In Q2, Spaniard Carlos Sainz, from Ferrari, spun on the track and crashed at Senna’s S curve, and Canadian Lance Stroll, from Aston Martin, crashed on the final straight.
Spaniard Fernando Alonso, from Aston Martin, spun at the Mergulho corner and crashed at the end of Q3. Thai Alexander Albon, from Willians, also hit hard in Q3.
