The Federal Supreme Court (STF) has already sentenced 265 people for their involvement in the January 8 attacks. The majority (223) were found guilty of participating in the invasion and depredation of the headquarters of the Three Powers, in Brasília.

There have been four acquittals to date. Another 476 people decided to close an agreement with the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), admitting the crimes, to avoid being judged.

The data is from this Friday (8), when the trial of another 15 defendants accused of inciting the acts, participating in the camp in front of the Army Headquarters in Brasília, begins.

Those suspected of being linked to the acts of January 8 were divided into the four large groups below, by type of involvement.

  • inciters;
  • financiers;
  • authorities.

So far, only the suspects from the first two groups have had their conduct judged by the Supreme Court. 223 were convicted of participating in the depredation and 42 for inciting the acts.

The group of those convicted of carrying out the acts faced sentences of up to 17 years in prison. In these cases, the defendants are considered guilty of the most serious crimes: coup d’état, violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, criminal association, qualified damage and deterioration of property.

The group of inciters was accused of less serious crimes, such as criminal association and incitement to crime. For these people, the rapporteur of the cases, minister Alexandre de Moraes, authorized the PGR to evaluate the offering of agreements with the defendants.
