GOLDEN BALL
Vini Jr was not mentioned by journalists from Finland, El Salvador and Namibia in the Ballon d’Or
The absence of Vini Jr’s name as the best in the world in the Ballon d’Or awards generated worldwide outrage. However, for three journalists, the Brazilian is not even among the top 10.
The complete Ballon d’Or voting list, released this Friday. Journalists Juha Kanernva, from Finland, Bruno Porzio, from El Salvador, and Sheefeni Nikodemus, from Namibia, didn’t even mention the player when forming the top 10 best players of the year.
According to France Football magazine’s awards regulations, a journalist from each of the top 100 countries in the FIFA rankings lists ten names in order of preference, and players receive scores according to the position in which they appear in each list.
Winner of the award, Spanish midfielder Rodri was left off more lists than Vini Jr. Abdullah Ashoor, from Bahrain, Carlos Enrique Rivera, from Bolivia, Paché Andrade, from Colombia, Dafrallah Mouadhen, from the United Arab Emirates, and Campo Estrada, from Panama, it was the judges who did not include the big winner when formulating their respective top 10.
The fact that he came first in the list of 49 journalists contributed to Rodri’s victory, while Vini was top 1 for 35 of the participants in the vote. Apart from the two, Bellingham (five times), Carvajal (four), Kroos (two) Haaland (one), Lookman (one), Lautaro Martínez (one) and Mbappé (one) also received votes in first place.
Each vote for the best player in the world given by journalists was worth 15 points, and second place on the lists was worth 12 points. From third to tenth place, 10, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 were distributed, respectively.
