Secretary of Communication, the federal deputy (SP) states that his return to the presidency of the party lights a “yellow signal” that () could resurface in 2026. Therefore, he says, the party needs to regroup heterogeneous sectors and recreate the “broad front in defense of democracy” which gave victory to (PT) in 2022.
The embryo of this alliance, he argues, is in the stitching together of PT’s support for those of (Republicans) and (Union) for the presidencies of the Chamber and Senate.
“The centrão won’t look for a candidate to oppose Bolsonarism, that’s not what they want. We have to bring the centrão to our side. There’s nothing wrong with it. The PT is in its place. It’s a left-wing party that wants to do structural reforms and that at the moment it is in this great articulation to avoid setbacks from the point of view of democracy and society”, he states.
According to Tatto, this articulation with acronyms such as Republicans, PP and União Brasil “leaves the country in a certain normality” that removes the chaos in which the extreme right feels more comfortable and creates “political conditions for Lula to rebuild the government in a more consistent manner” , which was not made possible by the 2024 elections.
“What is the Lula government’s task now? Recomposing the government in light of what happened in the municipal dispute, Trump’s election and what is happening in Congress. The time is now. We have to start looking at the parties that will be with us effectively . Center parties”, he argues.
The difference between the Brazilian case and the North American case, says Tatto, is the participation of Lula, who is a “mass leader” and has “the credibility to make this connection” with different sectors of society.
“The debate is not about identity or entrepreneurship. We have to improve the people’s lives. The government needs political repositioning without hesitation, without giving room for people to think that the government is lukewarm, insipid, inactive, lethargic”, says Tatto.
According to him, the problem with the PT administration is not a lack of delivery of works and programs.
“It is a government that is paralyzed in political initiatives, communication, articulation”, he assesses. He proposes an “aggressive communication policy” to “bring to the population the efforts that the government is making to improve people’s lives.”
