Billionaire Elon Musk took part in a phone call between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and White House chief-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday following his victory in the US presidential election. A high-ranking Ukrainian official said this to AFP on Friday, TASR reports.
“I confirm it,” a representative of the Ukrainian presidential office responded on the condition of anonymity to the reports of the American news portal Axios about the aforementioned phone call.
The founder of SpaceX and the owner of the social network X was one of the most prominent supporters of the Trump campaign and his presence during the official phone call highlights his close ties to the future US president.
Another high-ranking Ukrainian source told AFP that Musk was with the newly elected American president, who handed him the phone, during the phone call. According to the source, Zelensky thanked Musk for the Starlink systems (the systems are important for Ukrainian communication on the battlefield, note TASR) and they talked briefly.
The Ukrainian president said on Wednesday that he had an “excellent” phone call with the winner of the US presidential election, in which they agreed to “maintain a close dialogue and advance our cooperation.” He did not mention the conversation with Musk.
