An emergency macro operation has been searching since last night by land, sea and air for a resident of Santa Cristina d’Aro (Baix Empordà) between 35 and 40 years old who, after jumping into the water to try to rescue his dog. Participating in the search are underwater units from the Generalitat Fire Department, the Civil Guard and the Mossos d’Esquadra, the Platja d’Aro Local Police and also the Salvamar Sirius boat – based in Palamós – and the Helimer 207 Maritime Rescue helicopter, which is who coordinates the search.
According to sources from the device, the events took place yesterday around 8:45 p.m. in the area of the mouth of the Ridaura river, which originates in the Massís de l’Ardenya in Santa Cristina d’Aro and flows south of the neighboring town. from Platja d’Aro. Apparently a resident of Santa Cristina was walking with his dog when it fell into the water. To try to rescue the animal, the man jumped into the river and the current ended up taking them both to the sea. A person who was in the area at that time called the emergency number 112 and reported that there was a man in the water who was being carried by the current and was having trouble getting out.
A search device coordinated by the Barcelona Maritime Rescue Center was immediately activated in which members of the Local Police participated on land, underwater the Mossos Aquatic Unit and the Group of Underwater Activities Specialists (GEAS) of the Guard.
