Donald Trump’s re-election to the presidency of the United States could benefit the steel industry, according to an assessment by Rafael Japur, Gerdau’s financial director, in an interview with CNN Money.

The executive pointed out that, in his first term, Trump showed a more favorable profile for the sector in the USA, which resulted in a substantial improvement in the profitability of all companies in the segment in the country, with the expectation that these measures will be maintained and even expanded in this return. to the White House.

“The more tariffs, the more protection and the more incentives for local steel production and consumption, tends to improve or boost our results in our North American division”, he highlighted.

Gerdau has its own production in the USA, and the steel produced in Brazil is exported to other countries.

Japur explained that in recent years, the USA, Mexico and Canada represented more than half of Gerdau’s profitability. According to the executive, the expectation is to maintain this pace, although he does not rule out turbulence at the beginning of the new president’s term.
