The Curitiba City Council approved a bill that encourages donations to social organizations registered in the Nota Paraná Program.

The second round vote on the measure took place last Tuesday (5) and was unanimous among the city councilors.

Now, the measure goes to Mayor Rafael Greca (PSD) for sanction. Subsequently, it will come into effect 60 days after publication in the Official Gazette of the Municipality.

The proposal determines that commercial establishments offer collection boxes to receive tax coupons from consumers who choose not to indicate their Individual Taxpayer Registry (CPF) number when paying for their purchase.

The collection box must indicate the name and details of the entity that will receive the invoices, which can be either from Curitiba or the metropolitan region.

According to the author of the project, councilor Noemia Rocha (MDB), the idea is, with the help of commerce, to encourage donations to social organizations.

“Today, we have many banknotes that are thrown in the trash, are disregarded, and that could, yes, help a social organization, which is often so needy, and which depends on this incentive”, said the parliamentarian.

Nota Paraná was created in 2015 and has thousands of establishments, citizens and social organizations registered. In the program, both consumers and registered non-profit entities can accumulate credits and compete for prize draws.
