“I woke up in the early hours of the morning to check the results. I was very hopeful about Kamala Harris. I understand that her decision to run was a little late, maybe if we had had a little more time the result could have been different,” she said.
“As soon as she announced [a candidatura] it was the symbolism of having a black woman competing for this space that has historically been denied to us. There’s a lot of struggle ahead, it’s impossible for us to wake up and see this result without thinking about how far we still have to go.”
