Two people were arrested this evening on suspicion of setting fire to rubbish bins in the municipality of Amadora, Lisbon district. On Wednesday, a couple was arrested in Lisbon for physically assaulting a Carris driver, after loudly announcing that they intended to commit crimes in Lisbon.

According to a source from the PSP Lisbon Metropolitan Command, the alert for fires in dumpsters on public roads was given at 10pm on Friday.
The fires occurred next to 25 de Abril street with Rua da Liberdade in the parish of Encosta do Sol, municipality of Amadora. The agents who went to the scene managed to intercept two of the three suspects of setting the fires, and the two were arrested.
The same source added that one of the suspects insulted and threatened the police after being approached.
This police force continues to have personnel on site monitoring the area to prevent further disrespect, he also said.
The Lisbon Metropolitan Area has recorded, since the death of Odair Moniz, a Cape Verdean citizen who lived in the Zambujal neighborhood, in Amadora, and who died in the early hours of October 21st, shot by a PSP agent in the Cova neighborhood da Moura.
According to the PSP, the man “ran away” by car after seeing a police vehicle and “got into trouble” in Cova da Moura, where, when approached by the agents, “he allegedly resisted arrest and tried to attack them with a sharp weapon”.
The disturbances began in Zambujal and spread to other neighborhoods in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, where buses, cars and trash cans were burned and stoned. Seven people were injured in the events, one of them seriously.
Couple arrested for attacks and threats on bus
A couple was arrested on Wednesday in Lisbon on suspicion of qualified damage to a Carris bus and qualified physical harm against the driver, subject to identity and residence conditions.
According to a statement from the PSP, during the normal course of a career, the couple, a 53-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman, spoke out loud about their intention to commit crimes in Lisbon, so the driver “requested respect from others passengers” and highlighted that there were children on board.
The suspects reacted with “aggressive and intimidating behavior” and verbalized “xenophobic content”, followed by a physical attack on the driver using a Canadian woman.
The driver tried unsuccessfully to kick them out of the busbut ended up lock the doors to wait for the PSP to arrivewho was on her way to the location after being alerted.
To escape from inside the bus, the couple broke one of the glassesbut it was quickly located and detained by agentsand two knives were seized from his possession. The driver suffered minor injuries to his arm, according to police.
The measure of identity and residence coercion was determined after the detainees were presented to the judicial authority and the case was sent for investigation.
