Researchers have found that five days of working in front of a screen for around six hours a day can have the same effect on the skin as 25 minutes of sitting in the midday sun without any protection.
Shyamalar Gunatheesan, a dermatologist at the Skin and Cancer Foundation, warned that the negative health effects of screen devices are equivalent to sun damage, writes A Current Affair.
Blue light from laptops, smartphones, tablets, TVs and LED light are dangerous for health.
“Even if the exposure is short, it’s powerful. [Radiaţia] immediately penetrates the skin”, explained the specialist.
Six hours in front of the screen = 25 minutes in the sun
Scientists say that five days of working in front of a screen for about six hours a day can have the same effect on the skin as 25 minutes of exposure to the midday sun without any protection.
“Exposure to blue light, especially for a long period of time, causes hyperpigmentation, which can lead to a darker skin color. It also accelerates aging, causes spots and dehydration,” added Gunatheesan, quoted by Sputnik France.
According to the specialist, the easiest way to prevent this problem is to limit the time of using the devices. He pointed out that this is beneficial not only for mental health but also for eyesight. Additionally, Gunatheesan recommended dimming screens while using them.
“You can protect your skin with beauty products that contain powerful antioxidants, including vitamins B3 or C. A toning sunscreen lotion or foundation will protect your skin much better than regular sunscreens. It is important that the products contain a small amount of iron oxide”, explained the specialist.
