The (National Bank for Economic and Social Development) disbursed R$ 10.4 billion until September in projects in , an increase of 44% compared to R$ 7.22 billion in the same period in 2023 and an increase of 83% in relation to R$ 5.68 billion in the first nine months of 2022.
Furthermore, in the first nine months of the year, BNDES contracts in the Legal Amazon totaled R$ 13.2 billion, an increase of 3.1% compared to the R$ 10.05 billion registered until September 2023 and an increase of 58% compared to the same period in 2022, when R$8.32 billion were contracted.
The president of BNDES, states that the increase in sustainable investments in the region is in line with the objective of ensuring Brazil’s leadership in the energy transition process.
“The Amazon is a degree more or less in the planet’s temperature. Therefore, the BNDES has made a huge effort to leverage sustainable projects in the region, seeking to generate more quality jobs and income for the approximately 28 million people who live in that territory”, he states.
He says the bank is committed to , which encourages the replanting of native trees. “The ambitious goal, which now depends on international support, is to plant trees on six million hectares”, he adds. According to BNDES projections, by 2050 investments of around R$200 billion would be needed in the Arco da Restauração.
