Britain honored the memory of the victims of war conflicts with a two-minute silence

Two minutes of silence were observed in Britain on Sunday in memory of those who died in the world wars and other war conflicts. Catherine, Princess of Wales, who is returning to royal duties after cancer treatment, also attended the memorial service in central London, AFP reported.

King Charles III was among the dignitaries who laid wreaths at the First World War memorial in Whitehall in central London. – laid the first wreath there in the name of the entire nation.

The Princess of Wales watched the wreath-laying ceremony from the balcony of Government House alongside Prince Edward’s wife, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh. The monarch’s wife, Queen Kamila, did not participate in the events associated with the anniversary of the end of the First World War due to illness.

In addition, virtually every town across the UK held services for the war dead on Sunday. In cities such as Belfast, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Plymouth, Liverpool and Manchester, memorial gatherings are also planned.

The world commemorates the end of World War I (1914-1918) on November 11 as International Veterans Day.

The armistice between the Entente countries and Germany was signed in the dining car of the French General Staff in the forest of Compiegne, France on November 11, 1918.

The International Day of Veterans also has other names: in the states of the British Commonwealth of Nations (Commonwealth) it has the official name Remembrance Day, in the USA it is Veterans Day, in France and some other Western European countries it is Armistice Day. It was also called the Day of Red Poppies, which are the symbol of this day.
