For the first time in his career as a coach, Pep Guardiola reached a series of four consecutive defeats, seeing his Manchester City fall to Brighton 2-1 this Saturday (9), in the 11th round of the English Championship.
With 12 minutes left until the final whistle, City were leading 1-0 thanks to Norwegian Erling Haaland’s goal in the first half (23′), but Brazilian João Pedro (78′) and Matt O’Riley (83′), who They had started on the bench, turned the game around in the final stretch.
Coach since 2008, with successful spells at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and now at Manchester City, Guardiola suffers four consecutive defeats for the first time.
It is also the first time since 2006 that City have lost four games in a row.
The last victory was on October 26th, over Southampton (2-0). Since then, the team has been eliminated by Tottenham from the English League Cup (2-1), lost to Bournemouth (2-1) in the Premier League and was beaten by Sporting Lisbon (4-1) in the Champions League.
The defeat to Brighton leaves the ‘Citizens’ five points behind leaders Liverpool, who beat Aston Villa (8th) 2-0 this Saturday.
Earlier, Wolverhampton (18th) achieved their first victory of the season, beating bottom club Southampton 2-1, with a great goal from Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha.
Just two minutes into the game, Pablo Sarabia opened the scoring for the ‘Wolves’, who were playing at home.
At the beginning of the second half, Matheus Cunha, who had already provided the assist for Sarabia’s goal, hit a beautiful shot from outside the area to seal the victory.
