Deputy Dorinaldo Malafaia (PDT-AP) presented a project to create a national action with the aim of raising awareness about , following the example of those released by the Ministry of Health.
The proposal wants to encourage the “considered and responsible” use of electronic games, social networks, computer programs, software and other similar products connected to the internet or another communications network.
The campaign would take place every April and would have awareness actions in schools, health, communication and communication institutions. The deputy wants to disclose potential risks of use, physical and emotional for users.
The project provides that websites and applications for electronic games and social networks must display warnings about the potential risks of excessive use of digital technology in children and adolescents, with phrases defined by the Ministry of Health.
According to the text, commercial advertising for smartphones, video games, computers, tablets and other devices of this type and advertisements that promote this equipment must also contain the warning.
The proposal provides for sanctions in case of infringement, including a warning, suspension of the digital technology product or service, suspension of advertising for up to 30 days, seizure of equipment and a fine of up to 10% of the company’s revenue in Brazil, in addition to the prohibition of activities.
The amounts of the fines will be allocated to the Fund for the Defense of Diffuse Rights, applied to policies and projects that seek to protect children and adolescents in the digital environment.
“We are seeing children lose social connections and experience mental health problems due to excessive use of technology, especially on social media,” says the parliamentarian.
