Nikki Haley served as ambassador to the United Nations during the Trump administration.
Newly elected US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will not be part of his new administration. TASR informs about it based on the report of the DPA agency.
“I will not invite former Ambassador Nikki Haley or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to join the Trump administration that is currently being formed,” wrote the winner of the US presidential election in a post on his social network Truth Social.
Haley (52) served as ambassador to the United Nations during the previous Trump administration. This year, she was his opponent in the race for the nomination of the Republican Party in the presidential election, but in March she withdrew her candidacy after suffering a defeat in the Republican primaries in most US states.
Pompeo was first the director of the CIA and then the secretary of state
Pompeo was first the director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) during Trump’s first term. In April 2018, he assumed the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs. According to American media, he has been discussed as a potential candidate for defense secretary in connection with the new administration.
“I’ve enjoyed working with them and I appreciate them, and I want to thank them for their service to our country,” Trump added.
The president-elect began assembling his new administration after defeating Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in Tuesday’s presidential election. Trump announced on Friday that he has chosen his campaign manager Susan Wiles to be his White House chief of staff.
