The exam is a requirement for the Unified Selection System (Sisu), the main gateway to higher education, and for other federal public policies, such as Fies and ProUni
The second and last day of application of the (Enem) in 2024 takes place this Sunday (10). The test will have 90 multiple-choice questions, divided into Mathematics and its Technologies (45 Mathematics questions) and Natural Sciences and its Technologies (45 Biology, Physics and Chemistry questions). Enem is a requirement for (Sisu), the main gateway to higher education, and for other federal public policies, such as (Fies) and (ProUni), which grants scholarships at private universities.
Those registered will be able to enter the test sites between noon and 1 pm, when the gates will be closed. The test begins at 1:30 pm, and students will be able to leave the room from 3:30 pm, but without taking the question book with them. If the candidate wants to take the notebook, they must wait until 6 pm. The test ends at 6:30 pm. In general, the Natural Sciences test usually follows the exam pattern and requires a lot of interpretation skills on the part of students, in addition to the ability to apply scientific concepts in real-life situations.
Students who failed to take the first test last Sunday can normally take the exam this Sunday. If you failed to attend the first day due to logistical problems or infectious diseases, the candidate can request between the 11th and 15th of November to re-apply the missed assessment. The request must be made online, through the Enem Participant Page. If the case is provided for in the notice, the registrant will be authorized to take the missed test.
Anyone who does not meet the reapplication rules will be considered absent on the day they were absent, but will have their grades for the second day published normally in the individual performance report. The score will only be used for self-assessment of knowledge. The rules for administering the test will be almost identical to those of the first day. The only difference is the exam closing time: it ends half an hour earlier than last Sunday, when the Writing test was also administered.
After the Enem is administered this Sunday, Inep will release data on abstention in the Exam. Last year, 32% of candidates were absent on the second day of the test, following the pattern of recent years. The government has been looking for methods to reduce the number of absences and encourage students to attend. Last Sunday, the Language tests were administered, with 40 questions in Portuguese and 5 in English or Spanish, and in Human Sciences, with 45 questions in History, Geography, Philosophy and Sociology, in addition to Writing. The students had to speak about “Challenges for valuing African heritage in Brazil”, a topic praised by teachers. Enem has a history of addressing sensitive issues in the Brazilian reality, looking at themes that are the result of inequality between different social groups.
Increase in participation
Organized by the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep), Enem is applied in 1,753 municipalities, for the 4,325,960 confirmed registrants. This corresponds to an increase of practically 10% compared to the 3,933,970 registered last year. Of these 4.3 million, 1,616,606 are completing high school. Another 1,843,085 registrants have already completed it, and 841,546 are in high school and will take the exam as training.
Student profile
Data from Inep show that more than half (60.59%) of those enrolled in Enem are women (39.41% are men). The majority recognize themselves as brown (1,860,766), followed by white (1,788,622) and black (533,861). Another 62,288 consider themselves yellow and 29,891 declared themselves indigenous.
According to statistics, the State with the highest number of registrations is São Paulo, with 645,849, followed by Minas Gerais (393,007) and Bahia (376,352). Established in 1998, Enem assesses students’ academic performance at the end of high school. Participants who have not yet completed high school can participate as trainers, and the results obtained in the exam are only used for self-assessment of knowledge.
In addition to the national means of entry, performance on the Enem is also considered for entry into higher education institutions in Portugal that have an agreement with Inep. The agreements guarantee easy access to grades for Brazilian students interested in pursuing higher education in that country.
