Fortaleza beat Vasco 3-0 this Saturday (9) in a game valid for the 33rd round of the Brazilian Championship. At Arena Castelão, Fortaleza took the lead with a header from Martínez. In the 26th minute of the second half, Breno Lopes expanded after a quick counterattack. In stoppage time, Renato Kayzer scored the third, giving final numbers to the match.

The victory maintains Fortaleza’s unbeaten record playing at home in the Brasileirão. Of the 17 matches so far, there have been 13 wins and four draws.

Furthermore, the result keeps the team in third place, now with 63 points. Leão do Pici is one point behind Palmeiras and five behind leader Botafogo. He has already parked himself at 43 points in ninth place in the table.

Classification for Libertadores

The victory also guaranteed Fortaleza qualification for the Libertadores. With 63 points, Leão do Pici has 16 more than Cruzeiro, in seventh place, and only 15 are up for grabs until the end of the Brazilian Championship.

Therefore, mathematically, Fortaleza no longer leaves the G6, guaranteeing classification. It remains to be seen now whether the vacancy will be direct or for the pre-Libertadores. Today, Vojvoda’s team would be classified for the group stage, as they are in third place.

Upcoming games

The Brazilian Championship will be suspended in the next few days. Therefore, Vasco and Fortaleza will only return to the field on the 21st and 22nd of November, respectively.

Vasco faces Internacional, on Thursday, the 21st, in São Januário. Leão do Pici visits Fluminense, on the 22nd, Friday, at Maracanã.
