The Irish actor Paul Mescal28, discovered several historical facts about the Roman Empire during the recordings of “Gladiator 2”. Initially, he thought the scenes in the script were nothing more than fiction.
“All the things we see in the movie, like the Colosseum flooding, wild animalsall these things, when I first read the script, I thought it was fictional, but after researching it, I realized that all of this actually happened“, revealed in material provided exclusively to CNN.
“It was like the greatest show on Earththe production value and what the Roman emperors put into these events, because they were not just games, they were celebrations and offerings to the gods”, he explained.
“All the things you see in the film are recorded as actually happening,” he said.
What is the story of “Gladiator 2”?
“Gladiator 2” is set 25 years after the events of , in which Maximus (), a powerful Roman general, awakens the wrath of Marcus Aurelius’ (Richard Harris) son, Commodus (), before the emperor’s death. When the heir takes power, he is sentenced to death, however, he manages to escape and goes into hiding as a slave and gladiator while seeking revenge.
The new plot centers on Lucius, son of Lucilla and nephew of Commodus, who was inspired by Maximus. In the first film, the character is a child, played by Spencer Treat Clark. Now, Paul Mescal (” and ““) brings life to .
When he was still young, Lucilla sent him to the north coast of Africa, to a region called Numidia that was – at that time – beyond the reach of the Roman Empire.
