FIFA (International Football Federation) announced this Wednesday (30) the Chinese television and electronics group Hisense as the first sponsor of the new expanded Club World Cup in 2025.
The world football body indicated in a statement that it hopes to be able to announce other sponsors “in the coming weeks”.
This agreement, whose economic terms were not disclosed, “will offer fans unique ways to get involved in the tournament, both inside and outside the stadiums”, FIFA president Gianni Infantino promised from Shanghai.
“Hisense’s commitment to innovation and technology is aligned with our vision for this tournament, which will bring together the 32 best teams in the world for an unforgettable celebration that will revolutionize club football,” added the Italian-Swiss.
Already a sponsor of the men’s World Cup since 2017, a competition that brings FIFA the majority of its revenue and redistribution capacity, the new collaboration with Hisense alleviates uncertainty about the economic model of the future Club World Cup, expanded to 32 teams.
This tournament, which Gianni Infantino had been aiming for since 2016, dreaming of FIFA’s development in the club football segment, did not generate a wave of support, which is why it was postponed until 2025, when it will be played in the United States.
The quadrennial tournament, whose draw will take place on December 9, will be played from June 15 to July 13, 2025 in 12 stadiums across the United States, a year before the country co-hosts the World Cup, along with Canada and Mexico.
