Israeli attack in Lebanon leaves at least 23 dead, says ministry

At least 23 people, including seven children, were killed and six others were injured in an Israeli attack in Almat, in the Lebanese province of Mount Lebanon, the country’s Ministry of Health reported this Sunday (10). According to authorities, the death toll is likely to rise.

Three people were also killed and two others injured in an Israeli attack in Mashghara, in the western part of the Bekaa Valley, in Lebanon, late on Saturday (9). While one person was killed and four others were injured in an attack in Sahmar, also in the West Bekaa, which occurred on the same night, the health ministry added.

The National News Agency (NNA) reported airstrikes on the city of Almat in central Lebanon. said 20 people were killed at the scene, including three children. Video from the scene shows that at least one building was destroyed, along with heavy machinery trying to remove the debris.

Local MP Simon Abi Ramia said: “The targeted house belongs to one of the area’s best-known residents, and it is possible that it hosted displaced people.”

At least 2,513 people have been killed and 11,719 injured in Lebanon since September 16, when, according to a tally by CNN of statements from the Lebanese Ministry of Health.

The latest attacks have occurred in several locations in Lebanon since last Saturday.

The largest number of casualties occurred in an airstrike on what the NNA said was a civil defense center affiliated with the Al-Rissala Islamic Scout Association in the city of Deir Qanoun.

Furthermore, the attacks have left more than 80 people dead since the end of Saturday (9), according to reports.
