Madrid joins the protests organized in Valencia against Mazón

Hundreds of Madrid residents have called for the resignation of the president of the Valencian Community, Carlos Mazón, for his management of the disaster, which has left at least 215 dead. Shouting “Mazón resignation”, hundreds of people demand the dismissal of the popular leader in Puerta del Sol, in front of Madrid City Hall. One of the coordinators of the youth organization La Plaza, José Luis Martínez, has denounced “the inability, irresponsibility and negligence” of Mazón in the management of the catastrophe.
Martínez has expressed his rejection of Mazón “being at dinner and after dinner, maneuvering the management of Valencian public television.” There has been no shortage of songs referring to this fact. One of the most chanted slogans has been “Mazón eating and the people dying.”
The protesters have also charged against the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, and against the PP, a party that some have called “the party of 7,291 deaths”, in reference to the number of elderly people who died in nursing homes during the Covid. Attendees have called for “justice” and prison sentences for both leaders.
At Puerta del Sol this demonstration will converge with the anti-racist protest also called this Saturday, according to its organizers.
