President suffered a domestic accident on October 19, suffered head trauma and has only been released for short trips so far
The president (PT) undergoes more tests this Sunday (10.nov.2024) at the Sírio-Libanês hospital, in Brasília. The PT member at Palácio da Alvorada on October 19th and cut his head, suffering head trauma. Since the day of the accident, he has undergone periodic examinations to assess the progress of his condition.
The Chief Executive only went to his doctors to take short plane trips on November 3rd. He was prevented from using the means of transport because of the pressure that could be exerted on his body.
A week ago, tests showed stability in the clots formed in the president’s head. Which wasn’t the best news possible. There could have been some reduction in the points identified on the MRI.
Even so, the PT member had no symptoms resulting from the fall, such as headaches, which could raise suspicions about something more serious. For this reason, doctors cleared Lula to travel to Rio in about 10 days to participate in the G20 meeting.
According to a medical bulletin released by the hospital, the PT member “he remains symptom-free and the exam shows stability in relation to the previous ones, and he must maintain his usual activities”. You will have to undergo a new MRI in a week. Here is the medical bulletin (PDF – 117 kB).
Because of the accident, Lula canceled 4 international trips in October and November to Russia (for BRICS), Colombia (for the Biodiversity COP, the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity), Azerbaijan (for COP-29 , the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference) and to Peru (for APEC, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation).
“Scratched helmet”
The president detailed, on Wednesday (6.Nov.2024), how he hit his head after falling from a stool in the bathroom of the Palácio da Alvorada. He said he hit his head very hard and thought at the time that the damage would be much more serious than it was. He said he was taking medication and continued to undergo tests.
“I thought I had cracked my brain, cracked my shell. I went straight to the [hospital] Sírio-Libanês, I thought it was something much more serious. The crash messed with my brain, I’m having an MRI every three days. Now I’m going to do a Sunday to see if I’m 100% cured. Doctors advised me not to travel on a long flight. So I suspended all plane travel. At the same time, I’m taking some medication for prevention. I’m going to take care of myself until the doctors say ‘you’re fit again’, because a blow to the head is always a very delicate thing”, these.
The president gave an interview to senators Jorge Kajuru (PSB-GO) and Leila Bairros (PDT-DF), who run the program PODK Releasedyes RedeTV!. The full interview will air on Sunday (Nov. 10, 2024), at 10:30 p.m., but the excerpt was published in advance by UOL.
Lula described what the fall was like. Read next:
“I fell from where I should never have fallen. I arrived home at 4:30 pm on Saturday (Nov. 19), coming from São Paulo. I sat down to cut my nail. I sat down to cut my nail. I cut my nail, filed my nail, sitting on a stool that I always sat on. Behind the bench I was sitting on there is a mirror, the drawer where I store my things and there is a large whirlpool, a meter or so high. I was sitting. When I went to put the case away, instead of moving with the bench, I just moved with my body. The concrete fact that there was no more space, my ass didn’t levitate. I fell and hit my head. It was a very strong blow, a lot of blood came out”, reported.
Lula stated that his doctors said it would take up to 30 days to assess the effects of the fall. “I’m fine, working normally. I can only say that the beat was very strong”these.
