The Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs confirmed the words of President Putin.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has promised that Moscow will fully support African countries. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated this on Sunday at a conference with African representatives in the Black Sea resort of Sochi. TASR informs about it based on the AFP report.
“Our country will continue to fully support our African friends in various fields,” Lavrov quoted the Russian president as saying. The head of Russian diplomacy said that Russia’s relations with Africa are getting stronger, and he sees progress in all areas of cooperation.
He wants to help with sustainable development, the fight against terrorism and extremism
According to Putin, Russia can help African countries with “sustainable development, the fight against terrorism and extremism, epidemics, food problems and the consequences of natural disasters.”
Less than a month after the BRICS summit, the conference in Sochi is another opportunity for Russia to promote its vision of a “multipolar world”, writes AFP. Moscow is trying to show that the sanctions imposed on it by Western countries in response to the offensive in Ukraine have failed.
Moscow was a major player in Africa during the Soviet Union. Russia’s influence on this continent has also been growing in recent years through Russian mercenary groups and large-scale investments in the raw materials sector.
