The Public Ministry of Minas Gerais (MP-MG) recommended this Wednesday (30) the banning of the organized fan base Mancha Alviverde, from Palmeiras, from Brazilian stadiums for a period of two years.
The recommendation comes after an ambush organized by Palmeiras fans against the Mafia Azul, from Cruzeiro, on the Fernão Dias highway, in Mairiporã (SP), in the early hours of Sunday (27). The attack resulted in the death of a fan of the Minas Gerais club, in addition to 20 injuries.
Also this Wednesday, the São Paulo Football Federation (FPF) responded to a request from the São Paulo Prosecutor’s Office and ordered a ban on entry into the Mancha Alviverde stadiums in São Paulo.
The MP-MG issued a similar recommendation addressed to the FMF (Minas Gerais Football Federation) and requested that the decision be forwarded to the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) so that it can be extended to the national territory, “since the risk is not restricted to the state of Minas Gerais”.
The body determined a deadline of 72 hours for the mining entity to respond.
“It can be seen that the participation of organized fans Mancha Alviverde in sporting events has significantly contributed to the intensification of tempers among other fans, resulting in the worsening of violence not only among members of the aforementioned associative entity, but also among non-associated fans , amplifying the feeling of insecurity”, says the Public Prosecutor’s Office document.
The body also called for the creation of a national register of fans suspended or prevented from attending sporting events.
He also requested that clubs adopt internal procedures so that organized fans associated with the practice of violence are prohibited from using the club’s symbol or shield to avoid sporting sanctions.
Ambush
Drade (Delegation for the Suppression of Offenses of Sports Intolerance) will be responsible for trying to identify the members of Mancha, Palmeiras’ largest organized fan base, who set up an ambush and attacked Cruzeiro fans.
The attack resulted in the death of motorcycle courier José Victor de Miranda, 30, a member of the Blue Mafia, the main supporter of the Minas Gerais team. Miranda was on one of the two buses attacked with homemade bombs and fireworks. The motorcycle courier’s body had burn marks, according to the Federal Highway Police.
Other Cruzeiro residents suffered injuries and were taken to Anjo Gabriel Hospital, in Mairiporã. Two people remain hospitalized at the scene, and another was transferred to Franco da Rocha Hospital.
The police must analyze images from security cameras close to the site of the attack and at other points on the highway that connects São Paulo to Belo Horizonte.
The feud between Mafia Azul and Mancha Verde is old, and both have alliances with rivals. The Palmeiras fans are allies of Galoucura, from Atlético-MG, while the Cruzeiro fans are linked to Independente, from São Paulo.
Sunday’s ambush was considered a retaliation for a confrontation between Palmeiras and Cruzeirenses that took place in September 2022, on the same highway, but on Minas Gerais soil. On that occasion, the current president of Mancha, Jorge Luis, was one of those attacked.
In a statement released this Monday (28), Mancha stated that it has been unfairly accused of involvement in the ambush. The text states that the organized fans did not participate in or encourage any action related to the case.
